The Baton Rouge Chapter of Sunshine Foundation held its
annual Membership Party on Friday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of
Jim and Shirley Porter. Mrs. Porter welcomed guests. Special guest at
the party was Major Mark Turner of the Louisiana National Guard who
talked about the delivery and reading of the book “You Are Sunshine” to
kindergarten students in the state of Louisiana. He spoke of some of the
humorous moments which occurred in the book readings.
The dining table was centered with a beautiful arrangement of sunflowers
which is the flower of the Sunshine Foundation. A sunflower cake was
noted on the dessert table. A variety of wonderful food was prepared by
the chapter committee which included: Shirley Porter, Lois Saye, Vickie
Brand, Kandace Walls, Charlene Harp, Kay Collier, Stephanie Arceneaux,
Kay Kirsopp, Frances and Charles Bennett, Donni Shields and Baton Rouge
Chairperson Jeanne Triche.
During the evening, three raffle winners were drawn. Margaret Moore
entertained the attendees with many piano numbers. Guests joined or
renewed memberships.
Shirley announced that the “Sunshine for Kids” Gala will be held on
Tuesday, November 16 at the Old Governor’s Mansion.
